All Blue Everything! My Coastal Living Idea House Tour

Coastal Living Idea House, Design By Mark D Sikes

Last friday, I was invited by Merida, along with a group of wonderful designers, to tour the Coastal Living Idea House and then for a beautiful lunch in Newport. It was a great time! How super CHIC is this lounge area!?! This is my favorite room, and I love the fact that all the fabric, even the walls are fabricated in Sunbrella fabric. Also the hand on the fabric is so nice, you really wouldn't even know it was an outdoor fabric unless someone told you! Being a Mother of two toddler boys, I am all about fabrics that wipe! Timmins enterprise is here sometimes on a weekly basis! Btw, if you don't already have your main living areas fiber-shielded I can't recommend it enough, with or without children. All my clients get this done...
After seeing this room, I think my sunroom /playroom make-over, must be done in all Sunbrella!

Enough about wipe-able fabrics, lets talk about this art!

I love how modern and fresh, the Catherine Booker Jones art makes this space feel. Such an excellent selection! Not expected and I love that!

It doesn't get more "Beachy" than Matt Albiani 's photos of lifeguards, coastal scenes,  and vintage Jeep Grand Wagoneers. Matt's LIFEGUARD ON DUTY is a must have summer house book,  and all these prints seen can be purchased through his site.

My favorite detail of the kitchen, was the pantry! I just adore this little jewel box, it is just so old school New England!

Loved this Bedroom and the Boho chic vibe.
This bed by Reid Classics is so chic and different! I am going to show it to one of my clients for their beach house.

Light and airy 2nd floor landing area, carpet by Merida - wallpaper Farrow & Ball

Love this border detail paint details in the bathroom, around the molding and the doors,  and it so functional! Just shows you how much you can do with paint.

Very fun first floor Powder Room?!!

Little Girls Room

I LOVE this coverlet fabric, by one of my favorite fabric houses Quadrille

It's cool what Mark did with the wallpaper in this space. I also think he is trying to go for a not so "matchy- matchy" vibe, more of a New England beach home that has evolved over time and is purposely NOT perfectly coordinated. I don't know that for sure...just taking a stab.
Another way you could really make this coverlet fabric POP, is if the walls were painted or wallpapered in grass cloth, in that lighter blue seen in the center of the flower in coverlet fabric. To look closer at the Henriot Floral, go here

Not sure who the drapery workroom is for all the gorgeous custom drapery in the house?! It was really well done!

Another fun MDS Stripes Carpet by Merida

One area in the mud room, love the idea of a dark color for this area.

Master bedroom - Very Serene and preppy

Foyer
Farrow & Ball wallpaper with Merida runner leading to bathroom. This carpet is named "Sardinia Sea" - such a cozy feel too (*we all needed to walk barefoot, which I love)

 What a fun guest room!

Friday Je T'aime... Marytn Lawrence Bullard "Live, Love and Decorate"

Martyn........is in his words, delicious.

Schumacher was so gracious to invite me to dine with Martyn Lawrence Bullard with six other local designers and the Schumacher executive team. We had a blast! MLB's new
book is a must have, we've been drooling over the photos here at KMD all afternoon - the book will make a sensational addition to our library.

...the fun continued at brunch the next morning, before his panel discussion. Where MLB and Susan North of Schumacher, explained the textile designing process MLB inspirations, Istanbul, India, Bali, England and beyond. Susan North was clearly a major instrumental force in creating his new gorgeous and unique line at Schumacher. There truly is no other line out there like it....which is refreshing!

Martyn's book, like him is beyond, with clients like Sir Elton John, Cheryl Tiegs, Cher, and Tamara Melon to name a few -- his projects offer an unapologetic use of color, are comfortable, textured, and exude a passion for life and are a true reflection of his personality. Martyn is oozing with charisma and fun, and a certain...."je ne sais quoi!"

If you can't tell, Martyn is my new idol!

The images are a feast for the eyes and feature a glimpse into the homes of some of the world's most eccentric celebrities. The interiors are diverse in location and style and show Martyn's range as a designer while and always delivering the clients style- which I think is key to success as a designer ( so does Martyn Lawrence Bullard!)

This Donghia fabric is a longtime favorite of mine.

This iconic Warhol portrait of Cheryl Tiegs is one of the many examples of pop art and pop color that recurs in Martyn's work.

Love these chairs....

These chairs, while elegant are substantial and comfortable

I'm dying to use this composition in a living room- I can just see entertaining in this space. I would replace with ottoman to put up our feet and chat with guests.

You may recognize this Carolina Herrera frock (it's in my header and) ... it was previously featured on Living with Style.

This zen-like living room offers a tonal and relaxing retreat.
This chase faces an uninterrupted ocean view.

I loved this French layered look. I would love to get my hands on some Pierre Frey fabric and try this concept in a guest bedroom.

Jimmy Choo CEO Tamara Mellon's bedroom seems like a great santuary to kick off your Choos!
I've been using framed mirrors on some of my recent projects- it further customizes the space.

These shoes in Tamara Mellon's penthouse are a very appropriate addition to the composition.
Tamara's bathroom offers a Deco glamour which suits extends into her Jimmy Choo line.
Sir Elton John's living room. Incidentally, the vibrant color was inspired by a Hermes Kelly bag!

Down to the details... the color combination of raspberry, orange and yellow is my very favorite in a floral arrangement!

More photos from dinner! We all had such a great time!

So there is a little glimpse of Marytn's book! Have an amazing weekend!

Re: Legends 2013, La Cienega Design Quarter

Nathan Turners Window, design by Eric Hughes
So chic, simple and beautiful. Eric's inspiration was clothing designer Bill Blass

I cannot believe it's been a month since my trip to LA! Time really does fly....
Here are some pics from my fabulous day, at the La Cienega Design Quarter's - Legends 2013 event! You can also check out some more photos on my instagram page here

Loving this map of West Holly Wood and the whole vintage vibe....
This vintage sheep fur stool in person is amazing.

 Hollywood at Home

Loving this worn vintage wicker sofa, it' has a very Ralph Lauren vibe...

This living room vignette, reminds me of maybe what Malibu Beach Barbie's living room may look like....

Tell me you can't see her in that living room? It's made for her....
I would not mind having Barbie as a client, that girl really does have everything doesn't she...?
Couldn't resist sorry!

This chair is so darling....

Thank you Boston Merida for your all your hospitality at the VIP lounge!
How cool is this Celerie Kemble, Catalyst Carpet?  It's a little thrashed in this pic from the Traditional Home Party the night before. You can see a more clear pic of it here....

Flowers at the bar in the Merdia VIP lounge
How vibrant and beautiful is this arrangement?

Kelly & I at her design studio....

....lazy eye in full effect here, but I wanted to share this pic
I had the amazing opportunity to meet Kelly and get a tour of her design studio. She was incredibly gracious & sweet -- and the studio is everything I thought it would be & more!
