I love the combination of this elaborate Rocco style head-board, enveloped in this stainless steel four poster bed and simple heather gray linens. As you can see from a bedroom project I did here, I love incorporating contrasting elements - it's what make thing interesting!

I may be off in posting till the new year, as we have several dead-lines this holiday season and are putting all of our time and energy into our projects and clients.

Star Cabinet Built-Ins & Dining Room Project

1930's German industrial cabinet

This unusual German cabinet, was my inspiration piece for the built-ins designed for this dining room.

A glimpse of the built-ins, in the Dining Room we recently completed in Brookline.

As you can see, the paint color in the room changed (*from the sketch phase) to a very deep eggplant color. We silver leafed the ceiling...how glam is this? Details (not in photo) The table is a refinished antique, the chairs are upholstered with nail-head detail, a gorgeous transitional custom rug and a huge crystal dripping chandelier.

This is one side of the built-ins, with the star cabinet concept, which has been applied by our very talented faux painter. Can't wait to get the final photos of this project/home - it is fabulous!

Bright Colors on a Gloomy ( but warm!) Day!

A recent find for a client in Ack- Vintage Water Bottles

How fantastic are these bright and cheery vintage water bottles?!

I have been searching for the perfect accessories for a summer home in Nantucket, the finishing touches on a design project I have been working on.

The kitchen is mostly neutrals- with white cabinetry and black soapstone counters, aged chestnut floors and other neutral elements - vintage signs and other vintage bottles are the highlight of the space. Adding in these vintage water bottles brings in a fun twist. I love vintage pieces because they always have dings, imperfections, and a story- which only add to the character -- and one of a kind accessories are always the best! When I saw these, I knew that these would be great for my client's kitchen. Can't wait to see them in the actual space!

I secretly, or I guess not so secretly want these for myself...

So fun!

Diane Dorrans Saeks

Author of "The Saloniste Style" Blog- one of my favorite blogs.

My first introduction to Diane Dorrans Saeks came through living and working in San Francisco for many years in the design industry. I had the pleasure of meeting her at a book signing at the Wiseman Group, for one of her many books.

As a designer, writer, and educator, Saeks has an incredible presence in the design community. Saeks writes and edits periodicals and has published 18 books. She reaches beyond interior design to architecture, travel, fashion, and people.

Saeks's blog "The Style Saloniste" carries her aesthetic and voice into an online, blog form. Often, I struggle to find blogs that are actually educational, journalistic, and informative and do more than plugging the same designers over and over -- or suggesting this season's use of leopard in interiors, or making a room “board” based off of an outfit. Or any boards for that matter. Yawn....

Sophisticated, interesting, evolving and worldly...

Diane's blog is more of a reflection of the design world I came to know and love in San Francisco and beyond.

It’s a privilege to be able to read such an accomplished interiors writer, with so many colorful and beautiful stories. Diane’s blog features original content, exclusive interviews with fabulous designers - truly keeping with the interaction present at a "salon". The images are beautiful and inspirational.

I look forward to reading more post and garnering further inspiration

from Diane Dorrans Saeks!

Friday Je T'aime.... Bernard Wharton

Bernard Wharton was honored at last night's New England Home Design Hall of Fame Gala. Last night, we were delighted and inspired to hear from Bernard Wharton about his illustrious career. Wharton grew up on Bermuda which explains his gravitation towards the resort lifestyle. He moved to Boston where he began to pursue architecture after taking a job at Arrowstreet as a so-called "office boy". He explained how hard he had to work to move up in the ranks and his initial start as the office Cinderella; having to clean up after very messy architects -- as we know, creative minds are rarely neat and tidy ;)

When he began his formal education in architecture, he knew immediately that he wanted to start his own firm- he did just that and Shope, Reno, Wharton have been working together since 1981. Wharton is loyal to an Arts and Crafts style and nods to the traditional vernacular while still striving to create space while improving life through design. While based in New England, the firm has projects both residential and commercial across the country.

In addition to all of their projects, the firm has also written a book "House, Home, and Heart: Artistry and Craftsmanship". They have also been featured on the Architectural Design 100 List.

You might recognize lust-worthy Further Lane Farm in East Hampton, New York. Incidentally, the famed Grayson mansion on the new series "Revenge." He also just finish the much talked about home in Brookline for John Henry, here in Brookline, MA.

A while back I did a post about this hallway renovation here, one part of a historical home renovation that I have been working on for about two and a half years. Here is a picture of the family dog, Milo, on the hallway floor. Also, here are a couple of glimpses of the elements of the hallway...Michael J. Lee will be photographing the project later in the month and then you can see the full house.

Below is my "inspiration photo" -- as I was looking for something a little different than black and white check. Yet, something that was still classic....but unexpected.

I love the hardware I choose and on the door and the Lion Knocker!

I designed built-ins on either side of the entrance for plenty of storage. These closets were painted in about six coats of high-gloss black. Hardware, black crystal from Anthropologie.

Can't wait to share the full project! I love this Farrow & Ball color, Rectory Red -- it packs a lock of punch!

Monday Je T'aime... Arne Reimer

Recently, I stumbled upon the work of Arne Reimer. I was immediately captured by the realistic present in his work and wanted to know more...

Reimer, a mixed media artist, currently resides in Germany. So he proved to be quite difficult to track down. He completed his MFA at Mass Art and then began teaching at Wellesley College before returning to his native Germany. He has shown his work at several local galleries in Boston. He has two series circulating in the US at this time- dancers, shown below, and a second series of a movie theater. This project was completed in 2001, and is entitled Kraftig Nicht zu Schnell (Forcefully, Not too Fast). The title alludes to the pace of performance yet stillness present in these images.

His work suggests a very narrative composition. What I think is so wonderful about his work, in this series, is that one can relate from every perspective - be it a performer, audience, or backstage or waiting in the wings. The frames offer multiple vantage points- some up close and some from sweeping aerial views.

We are excited to be the first blog to share this series of Kraftig Nicht zu Schnell (Forcefully, Not too Fast), by Arne Reimer on Living with Style.

I can't help but think of this compositon as a modern day Degas....

I love this perspective...you really feel like your in the wings.

My favorite.

Friday Je T'aime... Nude Shoes

Valentino, a favorite of mine -- picked up last spring.

"Obviously I made a mistake wearing my Louboutin shoes, I should've worn flats, but flats to me is.... like a disease." -the exquisite Lisa Vanderpump

Since I am tiny, 5'2", I am always in heels. To me they are more comfortable because my body is so used to them. It could also have to do with the fact that I grew up dancing and was always uncomfortable during shows; dancing in pointe shoes, tap shoes, charter shoes .... so my feet are just used to being uncomfortable - to a certain extent. Needless to say, I will make a podiatrist very rich one day!

Last weekend, I got my weekly dosage of thought-provoking literature New York Times Style section case of Blahnik v. Louboutin. Heavy reading. Although I adore the glamour of Louboutin, my arches are too high to wear them and I do find it a bit ridiculous that someone can thinks he can trademark a primary color... but back to my point...

Still, I don't care if you are 5'2" or 6'0" everyone always looks better in heels- in my opinion but I think it's a fact... no? In particular, the nude and beige shoe trends elongates the legs and make everyone look taller overall.

The nude and beige shoe trend has been going on for three winter seasons... I know this because I have the shoes to prove it!

One pair of nude wedges I wore so much this summer that I had to resort to crazy gluing them back together at Backstage Hardware outside of the Design Center. Arts and Crafts!

I love my new Jimmy Choo Aimee Pumps-great for client meetings and every day use.

Valentino, get compliments on these every time I wear them. They are so fab!

Shells and Turtles

I love these original watercolors that I found in a local antique shop! Unfortunately, as I am relying exclusively on my iPhone photography, the vividness of the color and detail is not fully conveyed.

I found these to be really unique and fun while still maintaining a nice composition. These are probably late 19th century from France.

Friday Je T'aime... Throws for all seasons

I am always cold so I love to have a variety of different throws for the different seasons. Last spring I picked up this throw at the Patterson Group . It's a perfect lightweight cashmere throw for spring of chilly summer nights.

What a name, what a name - right? Combining one of my favorite places and icons, in a product name!I am kind of obsessed with the new Designers Guild Bedding, which you can see here on line? Perfect for a more a client with more feminine and bold taste, or for a little girls room.

I also love this zig zag pattern, especially the navy.

Now that the real fall weather is starting to set in, I think I will finally get a faux fur Pierre Frey throw. It feels like the REAL thing, sans the guilt!

Lastly, there is the "Ferrari" of cashmere throws the Hermes double faced cashmere fuchsia plaid Lourdes throws (*not available online, only in boutiques) As seen here in a detail shot from one of my projects.

I guess wearing cashmere head to toe is aways an option as well! Love this look from Loro Piana

KMD Furniture design being carried at Jia Moderne!

Jia Moderne is one of my resources for my more modern clients. They are also a wonderful stop for ancient Asian pieces and modern art. For Jia's newer lines I really love the Green T. House collection! The full line can be seen here -- the line has very unique and interesting pieces - more like art really! I wouldn't mind having the Quan Chair, seen below.

Still, I digress....

Recently, I designed a bunch of custom pieces for a Back Bay condo with Jia Moderneand this is highlighting a couple pieces made and a future in the works!

The low cabinet is modeled after the storage coffer with a circular lock plate from the late Qing dynasty. Most likely these were used as bedside tables. The cabinet was handmade using all the same joinery techniques of the ancient team in northern Beijing. Just as the antique was made from yumu (northern elm), so too was the low new cabinet produced from beams purchased just prior to the Beijing Olympics (and made surplus as a result). The finish is a use of Farrow & Ball, Charleston grey, over which traditional Chinese lacquer has been employed.

I am also looking forward to further collaborating with Jia. This week I will be looking at prototypes for an acrylic trunk piece I designed. VERY EXCITING, to have my furniture piece represented through Jia's Showroom! See below...

Betsy Sweat, the owner of Jia, loved my design of this occasional piece so much, she decided to put a couple into production and have some pieces made for the floor. So now we're moving forward to the prototyping phase! This piece could be a great solution for AV equipment, or a fun yet functional storage solution and side table (*can be made in all sizes.)

Ultimately, the client did not like the idea of "clear" for the project, so we had it made in the Charleston Gray. Still, something good came out of the process!

The concept as it was originally presented in the rendering for the client.

Trunk drawing with specifications and measurements

The hardware (*which I saw a couple months ago) is bronzed iron with a patina. Which will be a great juxtaposition to the very modern look of the trunk.

This is another piece I designed to house my client's art books, etc., through Jia Modern! This ancient Bamboo Monk Script, frame in Lucite with large stainless steel fixtures, is a very unique piece in the space.

I can't wait till November, when Michael Lee will be taking photos of this project!

Once the above acrylic trunk is finished and on the showroom floor, I will be sure to share!

Lotus Brownstone

I can just imagine the sales person at the new Farrow and Ball store explaining where they are located, "We are the giant black and white pattern brownstone on 142 E. 73rd St, you can't miss us!"

To support the grand opening, they've wrapped the entire four-story building where the showroom is located (142E., 73rd) the company's most iconic wallpaper patterns- Lotus. The wrap was just completed and I wanted to share share photos. I think it is fabulous!

Imagine wrapping your house or store front in wallpaper?!? This is just such a genius idea by Farrow & Ball! The lotus stone will absolutely stand out! Please see my previous post on Farrow & Ball and the lotus here.

Friday Je T'aime... Marytn Lawrence Bullard "Live, Love and Decorate"

Martyn........is in his words, delicious.

Schumacher was so gracious to invite me to dine with Mar tyn Lawrence Bullard with six other local designers and the Schumacher executive team. We had a blast! MLB's new

book is a must have, we've been drooling over the photos here at KMD all afternoon - the book will make a sensational addition to our library.

...the fun continued at brunch the next morning, before his panel discussion. Where MLB and Susan North of Schumacher, explained the textile designing process MLB inspirations, Istanbul, India, Bali, England and beyond. Susan North was clearly a major instrumental force in creating his new gorgeous and unique line at Schumacher. There truly is no other line out there like it....which is refreshing!

Martyn's book, like him is beyond, with clients like S ir Elton John, Cheryl Tiegs, Cher, and Tamara Melon to name a few -- his projects offer an unapologetic use of color, are comfortable, textured, and exude a passion for life and are a true reflection of his personality. Martyn is oozing with charisma and fun, and a certain...."je ne sais quoi!"

If you can't tell, Martyn is my new idol!

The images are a feast for the eyes and feature a glimpse into the homes of some of the world's most eccentric celebrities. The interiors are diverse in location and style and show Martyn's range as a designer while and always delivering the clients style- which I think is key to success as a designer ( so does Ma rtyn Lawrence Bu llard!)

This Donghia fabric is a longtime favorite of mine.

This iconic Warhol portrait of Cheryl Tiegs is one of the many examples of pop art and pop color that recurs in Martyn's work.

Love these chairs....

These chairs, while elegant are substantial and comfortable

I'm dying to use this composition in a living room- I can just see entertaining in this space. I would replace with ottoman to put up our feet and chat with guests.

You may recognize this Carolina Herrera frock (it's in my header and) ... it was previously featured on Living with Style.

This zen-like living room offers a tonal and relaxing retreat.

This chase faces an uninterrupted ocean view.

I loved this French layered look. I would love to get my hands on some Pierre Frey fabric and try this concept in a guest bedroom.

Jimmy Choo CEO Tamara Mellon's bedroom seems like a great santuary to kick off your Choos!

I've been using framed mirrors on some of my recent projects- it further customizes the space.

These shoes in Tamara Mellon's penthouse are a very appropriate addition to the composition.

Tamara's bathroom offers a Deco glamour which suits extends into her Jimmy Choo line.

Sir Elton John's living room. Incidentally, the vibrant color was inspired by a Hermes Kelly bag!

Down to the details... the color combination of raspberry, orange and yellow is my very favorite in a floral arrangement!

Martyn Lawrence-Bullard comes to town!

An exotic twist on a dining room space.

Love this outdoor living room! Too bad I have to grapple with the New England weather.

Starting to wind down at KMD and getting ready for a night out on the town! We are looking forward to tonight's designer dinner with Martyn Lawrence-Bullard organized by Schumacher in celebration of their latest fabric line. It promises to be a night of mingling with old friends and meeting new designers. I love Martyn's global style as reflected in his prints and aesthetics- I know many of our clients will too!

Tomorrow, we will be going to a brunch followed by a panel discussion on the inspiration behind this fabric line featuring Martyn and several other design luminaries. Then KMD's heading up to Maine for a site visit. Then turning around to try to make the Killian Hennessey Fragrance event at the BDC! All in a day's work!

I love this take on the Greek key. A hypnotizing take on one of my favorite design motifs.

This sikar makes a bold statement.

Friday Je t'aime... Gin Fizz

"A woman who doesn't wear perfume has no future" -Coco Chanel

Clearly Coco's thoughts were in black and white. During a trip to Paris earlier this month I came upon Lubin perfume, and picked up a bottle while in Saint Germain. This is my new favorite fragrance, it's really light and fresh.... further description here on the Lubin site. Perfume & mascara are two essentials for me everyday, I feel naked without them! I think it amazing how the right perfume can make you feel happy!

The perfume was created for Grace Kelly- incidentally, one of the three perfumes and one of a dozen other products created in homage to the style icon (also notable, the Hermes Kelly bag). Makes you wonder about the fashion icon's magical influence!

Sleeping Beauty

Custom bedding has been "all the rage" here at KMD! Fine custom bedding is such a beautiful finishing touch to an elegant bedroom, don't you agree? All of my clients have been loving this unique stamp that they can place on their most personal space.

This bedding I designed just came in and I had to share. Here is a glimpse of the bedding with the other elements in the room....as it will still will be a couple months until my client moves into their new home. This gorgeous cut velvet is being fabricated into large euro shams, which will have a huge "wow" factor!

I can't wait till this bedroom is done in November, so I can share the pictures! Thank you to the ladies at the Patterson Group for taking these beautiful photos!

It's been a very eventful couple of months here at KMD, I moved into a new office in the Boston Design center building, hired two new employees and we're busy as ever! Currently we are working on a major home renovation and design project in York, Maine, multiple projects in the Back Back, Wellesley, Belmont and Winchester.

I am just getting home from a vacation in San Jaun, Puerto Rico, where we stayed here

It was the perfect relaxing vacation! I am back feeling recharged and ready to start a couple of new exciting projects! It's suppose to be a balmy 50 degrees here tomorrow in the Boston area, spring is just around the corner.

...although looking at my beach pictures, makes me want to plan another trip!

One Posh Sofa

Tory Burch, looking amazing on her super posh Sofa!

I first saw this sofa in the 2007 Vanity Fair Article on Tory Burch, it's been on my cork board ever since!

The plush velvet, the super deep seating, this sofa has all the bells and whistles -- or in this case all trims and fringes! So, this is a concept I am considering for my living room....still, I think I would do my sofa in this pretty blue...instead of green...and in a slightly less formal way (the trim is less intricate.)

Taking away the Tiger Pillows...and adding cut velvet for pillows.

....I can't do without the tiger pillows, what am I thinking?!?!

Oh and Tory....I love that dress! Somehow it always comes back to dresses for me :)

Recently I was chatting with travel expert Jonathan Epstein, owner of Celebrated Experiences, as I am planning a trip to England and Scotland this summer. My Mother is of Scottish decent ( I have a Brother that plays the bag pipes and the whole bit) and I have never been to London. I know gasp!

....and well I like the color green, and I have been seriously bitten by the travel bug this winter - so I really need to get this trip in order!

One of the Boutique hotels he suggested was the Egerton Hotel -- and of course I just loved the decor! It's looks like something I would have designed....see below...

Shari from Little Blue Deer gave LWS this crisp new design, the header has pieces of my work and other elements that I love...

Very busy over here working on design projects, working with my graphic designer to finish up the KMD site --- and getting ready to leave for a tropical getaway. Just what the doctor ordered, after this brutal winter!

Other news, I recently designed a piece of furniture which is being produced by a well known local showroom and displayed on their floor, at the Boston Design Center! My first signature designer piece, I can't wait for the reveal of my design.

Darin Geise: English Country Side in SF

Darin Geise's home, owner of Coupdetat, was recently featured in San Francisco Magazine. As I mentioned in a previous post, Darin started me in the design business, over 10 years ago.

I love the English influence of Darin's layered and cozy Potrero Hill home. The colors are warm and inviting...it's the kind of place you want to come home to, light a fire and put your feet up! It's so Darin's style to take something fresh and fun like the high gloss trellis and layer large scale, serious portraits on top! Darin has always had great style, he is master a making it all look "acquired" and not stuffy.

My first Day of work, I show up a little early and see a lone bag in front of the shop (*Darin must have left to open the doors) the bag looks like this -- and being pretty young at the time, I think this is fabric sample bag or a briefcase of sorts. Then the bag starts Barking (I am really confused) ....Darin appears, let's out little Eleanor - the showroom dog...

Yesterday I spotted this dress on the Coveteur, it a Carolina Herrera, worn by Karla Martinez. I am in love with this dress! Then is got me thinking about how much I love dresses and how amazing it must be to be a couture dress designer....

Which lead me to think about one of my favorite dresses, my wedding dress.

.....ironically, the initial choice was between a a Carolina Herrera and the dress I ended up choosing below, by Manuel Mota. The Carolina Herrera was of course classic and beautiful, but when I saw this dress on a headless mannequin in the corner of a Maiden Lane shop in SF - I instantly knew this was the one!

Hallway Renovation

In March, KMD is excited for the demo/renovation of this hallway below. The design concept I choose for the floors, is above (*obviously on a smaller scale.) Don't you just love it!

The area you can't see below, because I am standing in it taking the iphone photo, is the front door area (about 12 x 12) is being turned into a very stylish and functional mudroom. The built-ins are finished in a high-gloss black, shaker style cabinets - top to bottom (with over 10 feet ceilings.) It's going to be so AMAZING, dying to share this entire project of this historical home, once it's complete! It's been a project I have been working on for awhile and all the rooms I designed are modern classics!

In the meantime, I thought I would share the before pics and another element in the space.

Hallway before...

Recently restored staircase, (which you can't really see in my iphone pic) I had finished in a high-gloss black (about 6 coats I believe), then BM - decorators white.

Cabinet I designed for foyer, below.

Here is the Faux Bamboo Cabinet drawing I designed for the foyer (*in progress pic below, being built by my very talented furniture craftsman.) This cabinet will sit under the staircase, and is being finished in a true Tiffany blue - I literally gave the finisher a Tiffany box and asked him to match it!

Nguyen Thanh Binh & Happy Chinese New Year!

Above is an original oil on canvas by Nguyen Thanh Binh, which I am considering for my toughest client -- myself. Mostly, because I am never available!

The Ao Dia, still worn today buy the school girls, is so elegant and I just love the simple composition of his pieces. At the same time I get a laugh out of the fact that this piece is of school girls, since I was never a big fan of school. Anyway, I digress....

Binh generally paints themes which depict everyday life, for him -- subjects which are close to him; mostly of his family, Mother & Child, his son in martial arts class and his daughter in dance classes. I instantly adored his work, I hope you do too!

Below is the hallway and then specific area I am considering putting the piece. The other paintings, are seascape finds I picked up in Portofino.

As a way to cope with the weather, I virtual shop (still, I mostly end up buying albums on itunes.) Can't wait to dust off my full skirts and dresses this spring -- loving this trend. It's flattering, comfy and polished.

The Alternative Wife - A Sweet Escape

How I felt this morning...when look out to about 5 feet of snow.

Since, most of the showrooms I usually visit have been closed for two days, because of the snow -- I have been able to have a bit of time to check out the blogosphere. One I am really loving is is Alternative Wife, the photos read like a La Perla advertisement, and the blogger Dawn seems lovely. Build An Ark - Sweet Things

Last night when I came home from work, I reluctantly started the task of searching for a pair of serious snow boots online. Let's face it, winter clothing is just not sexy and well, snow boots, like flats are like a disease to me (homage to Lisa Vanderpump my fav housewife) -- so naturally I get sidetracked and somehow start looking for beach towels. Anyway, it was a good thing -- because I found this gorgeous song above -- please hit play.

I found myself on the Maison Verni website -- and I just feel in love with site & the background music (*I like the towels too!) It's by artist "Build An Ark" and the song is "Sweet Thing" - it reminds me of summer....and well less complicated times.

Is it me or does this instrumental have a hint of Van Morrison? Specifically, Tupelo Honey? If you listen at around the 2:21 point, I am hearing strong similarities.....

...but then, it also reminds me of the band AIR.....has the same nostalgic feeling a this song

Ok, back to the beach blankets...

Still, my choice would be this Missoni Beach Towel -- if I were looking for a beach towel....

But I am not, I am looking for boots - right?

Anyway, I did end up finding a pair of snow boots and found a great new band - which is fantatic! Here are my new snow boots, I call them my "Black Swan Boots" - the Sorel "Joan of Arctic" boot

Apparently, they are cozy up to -25 degrees, so I guess they will do the job. 47 days till spring!

Recently I attended the opening night of the Sebastian Kruger's work at Newbury Fine Arts. Sebastian's focus is New Pop Realism and also has many star caricatures. I also picked up his new book, Faces. I had the pleasure of meeting Sebastian...he explained that a painting like the one of Michael Jackson below takes about 4 days, obviously the video is edited.

His work is so vivid and realistic you think your looking at a photo. He as been criticized as possibly putting paint on top of photos, so he started a workshop -- so people can see the process of his work.

I saw this video below at the opening and I was blown away...

We have been busy over at KMD installing multiple jobs throughout the holidays season, literally days up till Christmas. We have also been working with branding GENIUS Adam Larson, from Adam & Co. Our site is "under construction," however, I wanted to share the new logo Adam created.

The new site should be up by Jan. 15th, with some new and very exciting projects I cannot wait to share with you all!!

Adam, instantly understood my vision and clearly delivered a logo/brand identity system and site concept that was just perfect. I wanted to share some of Adam Larson work with you all. I could go on and on about how talented he is -- however I think his work really speaks for itself!

South End Kitchen Renovation & Studio Bon Fabrics, Kristine Mullaney Design

This kitchen was a major renovation, on the fifth floor of a south end brownstone. You should have seen the poor granite installers carry up these beautiful slabs.

Since the sun was so strong the day we took photos, you cannot really see the fabric...however it's great! I am a big fan of the Studio Bon fabrics (see more on Studio Bon Below.) I have the above fabric in one of my powder rooms. Back splash tiles are by Ann Saks, cabinets through a designer resource. We also installed new wood floors. I wish I had before pics to show you what a transformation on this kitchen....

Christine d’Ornano London townhouse is just fantastic, I love the eclectic, playful and "acquired" look of her London Town House. Don't you...?

These modernist chairs by Joe Colombo looks like it could be straight from the Jetsons living room. Still, I am kind of in love with it! It looks very enveloping and I am loving the juxtaposition to the antique ormolu -encrusted desk. Christine runs the UK division of her family's company, Sisley so I am sure she spends many days at this desk...

...the painting is by Marc Quinn and it really gives a punch of color to the space - it demands attention.

Boston Home Magazine, Back Bay Project, Kristine Mullaney Design

This was is a another back bay project, a very quick job -- mostly all the pieces are retail. Since this condo is an investment property, the couple was just looking to get a stylized look -- quickly (*hence retail, which isn't even that quick!)

The art is not retail, the abstract pieces are by John Palmer. This unit will be featured in Boston Home Magazine, in 2011. The space was used as a backdrop for a party, for a famous local Asian cuisine chef, the a particular type of Asian cuisine (cannot leak the story and give specifics, sorry!)

This is a custom office I designed for a client in the back bay. It is being installed as I write this...

This custom office is designed to hide all media equipment, each printer, light box and other computer equipment has a home. One thing has changed in the design, the computer is to the left. Something about having your back to the door I didn't like...maybe I've have watched to many mob movies, I don't know...

I have been working on this 2,500 sq. unit for about 8 months. I project managed the 2 month renovation. We fully loaded and wired this unit with Apple Technology throughout, a killer sound system and a large wine fridge. Which is all hidden in a closet. The condo is completely wireless. Which simply means, there is an Apple dock recessed in the wall, you put your iPhone in and all music, movies, games and anything on the iPhone is accessible to all computers and plasmas in the unit.

After the renovation, I was able to start on the fun part - the interior design!

There is lots of custom furniture throughout the unit, so the process is taking some time -- still it is going to be AMAZING and unique. I can't wait to show you the professional photos, when it is all completed.

The Living Room

Another reason why it would be great to have the professional photography - the feature wall is wallpapered in a silk ivory and golden Strié silk wallpaper - which does not come out in the rendering.
This is the drapery fabric, which I had hung on an industrial looking white track (so it disappears into the ceiling)

I never met an Oushak I didn't love....

In the living room I picked out this gorgeous Oushak rug. Oushaks are one of my favorite styles ....they are just so beautiful -- and the scale is just right, so it does not come off fussy.

Fine rugs are like art to me, I get a little obsessed and fixated on the perfect rug. Especially when it as fantastic as this one. It just adds soul and interest to a space.

I am still on the hunt for the perfect piece of Art for above the sectional. The search continuous.....

Here is the the clients dining area, please do not mind the iphone photo. This piece of art, is by John Palmer. Antiques and lock box found at local antique stores. Drum shade is custom, other pieces are by Ligne Roset in Boston.

Another piece I found below, was this Ormand Gigli, Girls in the Window photo. Since the original photos sells for for 35k, I decided to purchase one of the original posters and have it framed, for one area in the foyer.

In 1960, while a construction crew dismantled a row of brownstones right across from my own brownstone studio on East 58th Street, I was inspired to, somehow immortalize those buildings. I had the vision of 43 women in formal dress adorning the windows of the skeletal facade.

We had to work quickly to secure City permissions, arrange for models which included celebrities, the demolition supervisior's wife (third floor, third from left), my own wife (second floor, far right), and also secure the Rolls Royce to be parked on the sidewalk. Careful planning was a necessity as the photography had to be accomplished during the workers' lunch time!

The day before the buildings were razed, the 43 women appeared in their finest attire, went into the buildings, climbed the old stairs, and took their places in the windows. I was set up on my fire escape across the streeet, directing the scene, with bullhorn in hand. Of course I was concerned for the Models' safety, as some were daring enough to pose out on the crumbling sills.

The photography came off as planned. What had seemed to some as too dangerous or difficult to accomplish, became my fantasy fulfilled, and my most memorable self - assigned photograph. It has been an international award winner ever since.

Most professional photographers dream of having one signature picture they are known for. "GIRLS IN THE WINDOWS " is mine.

South End Glam, Kristine Mullaney Design

In my last blog entry, I mentioned I was going to try and blog once a week. Which is laughable, given all of my interior design projects (*I'm not complaining! )

This is another project I finished last December, for the very fashionable couple in the south end. They are just a fabulous, if not more, as their bedroom. Trust me.

Can you believe this condo use to be an old warehouse...?

The bedroom project was to make this space a reflection of this couples style. Slick and handsome, metropolitan, a hint of glamour and sophisticated. Also I needed to solve the issue of always needing more closet space to house more clothing & accessories -- and to hide the plasma.

The new custom closet does all of that....

Soooo I added a custom closet space, a gorgeous feature wall, designed some bedding (more details below) we closed off a wall, built the closets to the ceiling, added some sconces and recessed lighting and voila!

I finished just in time to attended there Holiday party, at there place.

Which was an absolute blast!

The closets floor to ceiling utilized the 11foot ceiling height and the far left side houses all of Michael Shoes, a very serious collection ( think, the male version of Carrie Bradshaw's collection)

The drapery was bought online & so was the rug, by the homeowners.

The Lorenzo damask wallpaper and the custom pillows -- are just the icing on the cake, don't you agree? The sconces are from cira lighting, the pewter rims adds a nice touch.

I am in love with the Damask paper. It's just perfect.

Custom pillows are a combination of Holly Hunt, Schumacher and Stark Fabrics.

The chandelier was found online and then I designed this custom shade from a pewter scrim like fabric, from Larsen, and had it made by custom shade designer.

On Thursday, August 5th, please join event chairs April Soderstrom & Michael Morris and the entire event committee for an evening of cocktails and entertainment to benefit Cradles to Crayons.We will have special guests behind the open bar assisting Boston's best bartenders in pouring Harpoon Brewery beer and libations featuring Three Olives Vodka brand liquors.

Your donation will afford you access to the event and include: complimentary bar, light hors d'oeuvres, as well as interaction with special guests from sports, government, business and media. Cradles to Crayons is an innovative non-profit organization equipping disadvantaged children with the everyday essentials they need to thrive. Your donation will support C2C’s efforts in the Rodman Ride for Kids to benefit homeless and low-income children across Massachusetts.
